The widespread adoption of sensor-based technology combined with mobile, smartphone applications has been a boon for homeowners. Home automation (aka ‘domotics’) allows users to control lighting, interior climate, appliances, alarm systems, and more.

What does this have to do with RVs? Quite a bit, it turns out, as the same technology is now being deployed to help RVers monitor and manage their rigs. There are Bluetooth® applications that use sensors to track temperature, humidity, and motion inside your RV, all from your handheld device. And others that let you monitor and control everything from awnings and lighting to leveling systems and water tanks from a smartphone application. These new apps are simplifying RV systems management and making life much easier for RV owners (especially ‘non-technical’ ones).

The updated 30 Amp Digital Bluetooth® Solar Controller also features Maximum Power Boost Technology (MPBT). This allows users to override the normal charging algorithm of the solar controller to ‘boost’ the solar charge — ideal at day’s end to ensure batteries are topped up for the evening.

Getting Connected With Bluetooth®

Of course, the big news is that the new 30 Amp Digital Bluetooth® Solar Controller is Bluetooth-enabled, allowing you to manage the controller from our Go Power! Connect app. The Connect app lets you view all the essential information from your solar controller and the rest of your power system right from your Bluetooth® enabled device, including:

Set the battery type and charging profile
Turn your compatible Go Power! ISW Inverter on or off
Toggle Maximum Power Boost mode
View essential battery stats, including:
- Battery Voltage
- PV Charging Current
- Battery State of Charge (SOC)

Going Off The Grid And Staying Connected

Even as RVers go further off-grid to unplug, many manufacturers are incorporating automation and ‘Smart’ features into their RVs. Airstream, for example, has introduced its Smart Control application that can control vent fans and speed, monitor tank and propane levels, and even locate your RV.
