Dometic Acquires Zamp Solar (May 2021)

May 26, 2021 — Dometic completed the acquisition of Zamp Solar, the Bend, Oregon maker of mobile solar power for RVs and the outdoor market. It was Dometic’s second solar acquisition in about five weeks, following the agreement to acquire Go Power! parent Valterra Products in April.

  • Who: Zamp Solar, founded in 2010 in Bend, Oregon, with about 65 employees and more than 400 active customers.
  • What it makes: Solar panels, charge controllers, power boxes and complete solar kits, including portable and roof-mount kits and the Zamp Solar Ready port fitted to many RVs.
  • Size: 2020 net sales of about USD 14 million, with strong organic growth; about half of sales from service and aftermarket.
  • Terms: Signed and closed the same day, May 26, 2021; financed with cash on hand; purchase price not disclosed. Zamp Solar is reported in Dometic’s Americas segment.

Why it mattered

Dometic said the deal strengthened its presence, know-how and distribution network in North American mobile solar, building on mobile power as a strategic priority. Together with Go Power!, it gave Dometic two of the most familiar names in RV solar, from factory-installed roof systems to the portable panels that plug into a sidewall port.

“We are excited to welcome the Zamp Solar team to Dometic,” said Juan Vargues, President and CEO of Dometic. He noted it was the company’s fifth announced acquisition of the year.
