PRODUCT DETAILS

OBSIDIAN™ Series 9 orders may require additional processing time.

The Go Power! 215W OBSIDIAN™ Series 9 Solar Kit pairs a premium, 0.6-inch-thin 215W monocrystalline panel made in Canada with the 30A Dual Bank PowerTrak™ MPPT charge controller (Dometic SC-DB-MPPT-30-12) — the rooftop system Go Power! supplies for PowerTrak™-equipped coaches. Nine-bus-bar cells and tempered anti-reflective glass deliver more watts per square foot than standard panels; the MPPT controller converts the panel's higher voltage into 15–30% more charge current and reports to the PowerTrak™ display over RV-C. About 64Ah a day in summer (26Ah in winter) to a 12V bank. 25-year panel warranty, 5-year controller warranty and a North American support team (part of Dometic).

Built to the standard RV manufacturers install

Go Power! has designed mobile power since 1996 and is the solar brand fitted at the factory by Jayco, Forest River, Thor and other leading RV builders. The panels, controllers, cabling and mounting feet in this kit are the same parts those plants install on solar-equipped coaches, so the kit matches factory wiring and the Go Power! systems already on the road. Part of Dometic.

Why OBSIDIAN™

The frame is a fraction of the height of a conventional panel, so it sits almost flush with the roof: less drag, less wind noise, and a clean look on vans and fifth wheels. Bypass diodes in the low-profile junction box limit the loss when part of the panel is shaded, and the anodized black frame resists corrosion on the road.

MPPT and PowerTrak™

The included 30A dual-bank MPPT controller (SC-DB-MPPT-30-12) is the one PowerTrak™ coaches use: it tracks the panel's maximum power point, supports lithium, AGM, gel and flooded profiles, and shows solar, battery and system data on the PowerTrak™ touchscreen. It is rated for 600W of solar at 12V and has a second battery output for a chassis or auxiliary bank. Add the KIT1053 expansion kit to grow the array — one fits on this controller (430W).

WHAT IT RUNS

What 215W of solar puts back each day: about 64Ah into a 12V battery on a sunny spring or summer day and about 26Ah in fall and winter, the same rule our RV solar calculator uses (30Ah and 12Ah per 100W per day). Compare that with what your gear draws:

Typical 12V camping dayDaily draw215W of solar (summer)
Storage: parasitic draws of a parked RV≈ 4Ah/dayCovered daily in summer
Weekend basics: LED lights, vent fan, water pump, phone & laptop charging≈ 25Ah/dayCovered daily in summer
12V compressor fridge alone, 24 h≈ 50Ah/dayCovered daily in summer
Fridge camp: basics + 12V compressor fridge≈ 75Ah/day≈ 85% in summer — add ≈ 50W or run a generator/shore day
Fridge camp + furnace blower (4 h, cold nights)≈ 100Ah/day≈ 64% in summer — add ≈ 150W or run a generator/shore day
Full comfort: fridge, furnace, CPAP, TV through inverter≈ 140Ah/day≈ 46% in summer — add ≈ 300W or run a generator/shore day

Rule of thumb: match panel watts to battery amp-hours (100W per 100Ah) for a bank that recovers from an overnight draw by mid-afternoon. A lithium battery accepts the full charge current; a lead-acid bank should not be discharged below 50%.

FAQ
What can a 215W solar kit run?

About 64Ah a day in summer (26Ah in winter): a 12V compressor fridge on an average day, or lights, fans, pump, CPAP and device charging with margin. Add the KIT1053 expansion panel for fridge-plus-everything and furnace days.

Which controller is included — 30A or 40A?

The 30A Dual Bank PowerTrak™ MPPT controller, Dometic SC-DB-MPPT-30-12. One 215W OBSIDIAN™ panel draws about 10.3A, so the 30A unit has room for one expansion panel (430W). The 40A SC-DB-MPPT-40-12 is sold separately for arrays up to 900W.

What is a 9-bus-bar panel?

Bus bars are the conductors that collect current from each cell. Nine thin bus bars instead of the usual four or five shorten the path electrons travel, cutting resistance losses and improving output when part of a cell is shaded or cracked. The result is more watts from the same roof area.

Does it work with my PowerTrak™ display?

Yes. The SC-DB-MPPT-30-12 reports solar and battery data over RV-C, so a PowerTrak™ touchscreen shows it alongside the inverter and batteries. It also works without a display, using its own status indicators.

How much solar does my RV need?

Start with 100W of panel per 100Ah of battery. A single 100Ah lithium battery running a 12V fridge, lights and fans uses about 50–70Ah a day, which 200W replaces on an average day; 400W covers that with margin for cloudy weather, a CPAP or inverter use. A weekend trailer with one lead-acid battery and no fridge is well served by 80–100W.

Can I expand this kit later?

Yes. Add the KIT1053 expansion panel with the pre-installed solar connectors (SC). The included 30A MPPT controller (SC-DB-MPPT-30-12) is rated for 600W of solar at 12V, so it supports one KIT1053 (430W total). For a bigger array, add a second SC-DB-MPPT controller on the same PowerTrak™ network or step up to the 40A SC-DB-MPPT-40-12 (up to 900W at 12V).

Will it charge lithium batteries?

Yes. The included controller has a selectable lithium (LiFePO4) profile as well as AGM, gel and flooded settings. Set the battery type once at installation.

Flat mount or tilt?

Flat is what RV manufacturers do and it is fine for most owners: simplest, lowest drag, no wind loading. Tilting toward the sun adds 20–30% in spring and fall; the adjustable tilt mount kit under Accessories makes that optional.

Does shade matter?

Yes — a shadow on one cell can cut a panel's output by half or more. Mount away from the air conditioner shroud, antennas and vents, and park with the panels clear of trees when you can.

Is Go Power! the solar installed in my RV from the factory?

Very likely, if your coach is a Jayco, Forest River, Thor or many other brands. Go Power! has supplied RV manufacturers since 1996, so this kit uses the same panels, controllers and connectors as factory solar-prep and solar-equipped coaches.

What's the warranty?

Go Power! rigid panels carry a 25-year limited power-output warranty and Go Power! controllers a 5-year warranty, backed by a North American support team (part of Dometic). Register the product after purchase.
